L’huilerie de la Croix Verte et la Tourangelle was founded at the end of the XIX century by Mr. Morillon and Mr. Bechet as a small animal-powered oil mill in the idyllic French town of Saumur. Over the next century and a half, La Tourangelle refined their production processes and adopted appropriate technologies without ever compromising the artisan tradition still employed today.

A family business, La Tourangelle is today owned by the Kohlmeyer Family. It is under the leadership of Heinz Kohlmeyer, the Father, driven by a passion for good food and entrepreneurship, that La Tourangelle has turned itself into a dynamic food company selling artisan oils all over the World and meeting the most stringent quality requirements.

La Tourangelle has also grown internationally. It is in 2002, that, then only 23 years old, Matthieu Kohlmeyer moved to California's Bay Area to recreate his family's French Artisan oil mill. The process involved custom fabricating century-old equipment and bringing an oil roasting artisan from France to train the American staff. The new oil mill, located in Woodland, California, is currently handcrafting and distributing specialty oils and has become the specialty oils category leader with national distribution in the USA and Canada.

In 2006, it is Maxime Kohlmeyer, another brother, that joined La Tourangelle at only 25 to take over the production management.

A great deal has occurred in the world since the time La Tourangelle first began handcrafting oil but thankfully their traditional process has remained virtually the same, only now the oils can be enjoyed fresh all over the World.
